Can't see anything wrong with reviving an old thread if it's a timeless subject like this one.
I opened my Discover card back in the dark ages (mid 1990s) with, I think, a CL around $2,500. Now $11,200, all but the last $1k is auto-CLI. Very slow, not very steady, but eventually it was my first $10k+ credit line.
