Ah, the good ol' engagement/wedding ring trap that sneaks up behind way too many guys and pulls them down. I really wish that whole BS of needing to spend a ton of money on a stupid ring would die out. Thank God for my wife. We found a vintage 1920's ring at a flea market, yes a flea market, for $950 and I paid cash for it then and there. This is especially true for really young people - they'll put $2-$5000 if not more on a credit card for a ring and they end up having to pay for it for the rest of their life. It makes me sick.
Wow the manwhocan,
Thank you very much. I see you went all out and provided a spreadsheet. That is some very good info. Again thanks for taking to time to reply.
Thanks clocktick,
You made some very good suggestions. My utilization is 61%, I have a couple of cards carrying zero balances. Yes, the military star card is 8700 and not 8200. The bank of america has a 2000 limit. No the rooms to go card is a store card, I will not use this every, but I got it to help utilization. My total payments are about 800 dollars a month. I'm tired of paying such a large chunk to credit cards.
@Themanwhocan wrote:I would pay everything down ASAP so that all creditors see that you do not have cards near their limits, not their cards and not any competitors cards. If you can call Capital One and convince them not to rate chase you on all 4 cards, that would be good too.
It would seem you could get to 60% usage by paying $7903. That would be my suggestion.
Wow that was very nice of you to do that!!!!
This advice seems good as well. Anything over 90% UTL is considered maxed and getting them all down to 60 would probably help your score a lot (which really shouldn't be a concern at this point) as well as make your creditors less nervous. Once you do this, then you can work on paying them off one by one. Perhaps you can work on them all each month with that $1500 til you get them under 50% then work on paying off the ones with the highest APR first, then "snowball" them down bit by bit til they're all paid. I would probably call Cap One and explain your situation and that you only maxed them this one time to furnish a new home and that you're planning to pay every thing off this year. Maybe they'll reinstate your credit limit on the card they CLD you on.
Did BofA offer you a 0% introductory period? Also, I would call the cards with the higher APRs (even the smaller ones) and see if they'll go down anymore - people have had some luck doing that. Also, I'd probably throw most of the remaining on PENFED because of everything I've read in the past (I don't have them personally), they can get quite nervous. Lots of people like to pay off the smaller balances first (Dave Ramsey way), however, it would be more beneficial to tackle the higher APRs first. That $1500/mo will come in very handy too!
Yes, you are right RockySC. My wife and I have been married for 11 years, and I have never bought her a ring. In fact, I am not into having rings, or buying gifts. I don't celebrate birthdays, or any holidays. I decieded to buy her ring, because I never really bough her anything in our marriage. I pay all the bills and she just pays daycare.
Clocktick, yes they did offer a 0% introductory period. Yes, the Penfed account scares me, because I know their very conservative history. They have already stop me from being able to transfer into my checking account on there website. Penfed said if your credit score is below a certain amount that you cannot make transfers, so when I get my score up I can request a credit review.
Thanks everyone for their help and advice!!! I think I will take a mix of everyone's ideas. The cards that I would like to keep the most are the cards I am focusing on. I will pay off the usaa and chase cards. I will then get Penfed and Capital One World cards to 60 percent utilization. I will then take the 1500 and apply it to the smaller balances and pay them off one by one. Therefore, by the end of the year my utilization will be below 10 percent. Again everyone thanks for your bright Ideas!!! Enjoy seeing the Seahawks win the Super Bowl tomorrow.
Built2last what are you suggestion? I apply for a chase freedom?
