Congrats on your approval, but your Exp FiCO score is a tad bit higher than mine, and I was approved with $30,000 this pass 01/2015.
Was your application instant approval? mine wasn't, I had to submit a copy of my SS card, forms to verify home address/income, and most current credit card statment from another lender, which I used Citi, and they matched my Citi CC CL!
My IT went from $1675 or $1850 (I think it was $1675) to $12.9k in a year.
With all things being relative, that would suuggest that your $6k should be $30k in a year.
My starting CL was a dismal $1500 with scores in the low 700's.
Its now up to $7500 all through SP CLI's over the past 14 months.

As others have stated it's never just about score.
I was happy just to get in the door with Discover and their $1500 CL back in December.
My reports will be clean of BK13 in the next 8-12 months with early exclusion and I will no doubt improve my limit... maybe they'll show me some love sooner?
Not the best card in my wallet but the 5% promotions are still pretty nice to fall back on after capping Sallie Mae for the month.

Discover gave me a temporary CLI from $5k to $8k last May, paired with a 0% BT offer, both good for the same 12 month period. So I BT to $7,700 on the $8k limit, 96% utilization, and started paying it down, to get the remainder of interest charging $900 that was on the card pre-BT and get that out of the interest charges. Then they followed that up with "spend $1,000 get $100 back" in September, so I ran a bunch of new charges through (which were on ANOTHER offer I didn't even recognize, that these new charges were at 0% APR also) and paid faster.
FICO score? Who cares? It may have been 750, I wasn't monitoring it, but in late October it was the scores in my siggy. I'm saving interest cost. It's on a path to zero by mid-May when the 0% BT and temporary CLI expire, and we'll see where it goes from there.
My point is, if you've got balances paying interest, max out that Discover card 0% offer. And I do mean max, as in 90% utilization. They'll love you for it.
Your initial credit line seems to be in line with your income and current score, considering it IS Discover.
