Just speaking for myself, I am (1) a Marvel nerd, and (2) a reading nerd. So, I think it's special because of the design, yes, but also the 3% cash back on dining and entertainment. I love that the entertainment category includes books! As soon as I am done in the garden (28 more days, hopefully), you better believe that this will be the first card I apply for.

Gardening is a term used around the forums for not applying for new credit and avoiding any activity that results in inquiries to your credit reports. Check out the "Garden Club" thread in the Credit Cards section of the forums. I'm gardening because I have been focusing on paying down existing balances, and keeping my credit profile as clean as possible for my ongoing mortgage application process, but I have been dying for the Marvel card for months! But, I'm keeping my priorities straight. Mortgage approval first, then Marvel card 
My Spiderman card was the only credit card I've ever used which got the cashier to smile
Also 3% cash back on dining wasn't bad.

3% Dinning is great compare to most cards, but the 3% entertainment is what it makes this awesome. Entertainment categories include Movie Theaters, Video Rental and Game Stores, Theatrical and Concert Promoters, Amusement Parks, Digital Entertainment, Games and Software, Music, Books and Newsstands, Toys and Hobby Stores.
You can't get more then 2% with most cards on these categories not to mention no AF.
So yah its very nice card to have, if you like to have fun 😎

Marvel Mastercard is issued by Synchrony Bank. That means CLI is SP
