I appied for my American Express Blue Cash Rewards card back in Dec of 2011 and they gave me a CL of 2,500.
Three months later, (after activation) in March 2012 later I ask for 3 times my CL of 2,500 and they did a soft pull on me and gave me 7500 CL.
It is now close to 6months and I was thinking I should get around to asking AmEx for another CL exp. if it will not be a hard pull.
Last known credit scores are listed below in my signature. I have 2 inquries on my credit report right now in the last 12 months. I am currently at 6.7% utilization for all of my credit card accounts. My AmEx only has like 20 bucks on it right now
You have to wait 6 months from your last CLI and it's a soft pull. So have at it. Good luck
It will definitely not be a HP.
You can ask 6 months from the day of your last cli up to 22.5 k (3x your current limit). Most people report that the system will counter offer if you are not eligible for the full 3x cli although it's really a ymmv situation.
How much do you think I can legitimatly ask for?
I was thinking of asking for 12,000 or an increase of 4500. Do you think that is too much or too conservative ?
Thanks for the info Mr. Prime
Honestly, you should go ahead and ask for 3x your current credit limit, there's really no downside, unless you wouldn't feel comfortable with that much credit. The system will counteroffer if you aren't approved for the full amount.
So chances are rather low that a large CLI request up to 20k would not trigger a financial review of doom ?

It really depends. If you have the income to support a larger limit it couldn't hurt to ask for as much as possible. AFAIK Amex also considers spending patterns (usage, pif, etc)
If income is on the lower side-what you suggested above may be more likely to be approved
I only put like 2-4 hundred on it every month and always pay in full.
I only make like 30K so.... yea. I'll update this post at the end of September when decide on a number to request from AmEx.
I asked for my credit line to be bumped up to 12,000.
I said my annual income was 28,100.
They counter offered with 11,200 and I took it. I am happy with that since its my first card over 10k
