I am thinkng about my future with Capital One, I am wondering when the best time would be to call them to see if they can upgrade my card from the Classic Platinum to a Cash Rewards, I am also wondering when would be the best time to call and ask for the annual fee to be waived. Also when i call which number should i use, the front door? The Backdoor to the Account Speciallist? The backdoor to the Retentions? or the Backdoor to the Senior Esculation Account Manager? Below I have listed some information about the current cards I have. Some advice would be nice please. Thanks.
Capital One - Limit $300 AF $39 APR 22.9% Opened in January 2012 (Due to increase to $500 by July via Credit Steps program)
Amazon Store Card - $300 AF $0 APR: 25.9% Opened in Febuary 2012
Walmart Store Card - $300 AF $0 APR 22.9% Opened in Febuary 2012

Call the bolded number, and I would wait until 1 month before the yearmark hits to discuss upgrades/AF waiving.

Future and Capital One just can't be included in the same sentence unless it includes roasting marshmallows with the flames of your worthless Capital One card in a year or so ![]()

I would like there to be a future because they are the first that gave me credit and it will be my longest opened account, so i will try to stay with them as long as i can and hope for the best. They have been good so far, they take my payments and post everything correctly so i am happy with them, but i hope to upgrade if i can.

Capital One just upgraded my Platinum to the Cash card. After nearly 2 years of me calling and asking for a card upgrade/CLI and always having them say no, I got an email a few days ago saying to call up and upgrade.

I don't want to wait 2 years if at all possible, on their application process it defines someone with excellent credit as someone who is never late, no bankrup, and has had a credit card for 3 years or more. I'm sure this plays a role in why it takes a while to upgrade their customers. If all of this is true then i may have to wait 3 years, i guess will wait and see what happens later on this year when i call them. ![]()

The time to call Capital One is when you want to be entertained / frustrated. Their CSR will read from the script " We appreciate your business but Capital One is a very conservative lender..."![]()

Wait, Cap One does upgrades now? What I'd always read here and been told by CSRs is the only way to "upgrade" is to app for a whole new card and then combine. Since when did they start doing PCs?
My cap one is my oldest account, like OP, but it's a worthless starter card with the lowest CL and highest APR of all my cards. I keep it for history but it's essentially permenantly sockdrawered until I can turn it into something useful.
KingAdrock, Have you asked for a credit limit increase? also how long have you had the card?
