When to try and switch a card

I have a Secured CC from my Credit Union CL $1,000 that i got in May of this year 2013 and I do need to pay it down some but my real question is WHEN would be a good idea to try and switch it from a Secured Card to an Unsecured Card...and in that process do they do a Credit Pull?

Thanks in Advance

Have you contacted the CU to see if the account is elegible to be unsecured?  If so, can they provide an approximate timeframe and what the process entails?

Not Yet. I was told that it is a card that is eligible to convert to a unsecured card.

I would also suggest calling to get some timeframes also... some banks require 12 months, some 15, some 9, some you just have to apply for unsecured, some will just automatically review and unsecure after a certain period without you doing anything but no matter what I would try to get the balance basically paid off and get your scores above 600 for sure.
