Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
i would try all the pre-Qualify links first and see if you get a bite.
Chase, Citi, BOA, Amex, Cap1, etc.
Discover and Amex tend to like short but clean files, so if you don't get a prequal offer, I would start there.

If I don't get prequal should I apply still
have you checked them all and have no prequalified offers?
don't apply for anything yet. just check the pre-quals and let us know what your offers are

AFTER you check your prequels, depending on what your results are,
AmEx- The Delta Gold card and the Everyday cards are easier to qualify for. So if you're looking for air miles or basic points, go for one of those. The charge cards also seem to be a little less strict than some of their other cards.
Chase- Freedom or Slate...maybe.
Barclay- Rewards MasterCard
Discover It...maybe? Not sure about this one. I've never really put much effort into them.
Also, you can see if your local credit union has Starter unsecured credit cards. Those are usually pretty good.
Good picks. These are all good cards for the OP to look at.
For Barclay's though, If the OP is interested in getting an easy 50K AA/US Airways miles, The US Airways is an easy approval as well. Perhaps not as easy as a Rewards MC, but definitely a great pick for the bonus conscious.
