Why does amex do financial reviews but other cc companies don't??

Sorry this happened to you. Like others have said at least they give you the option of providing documentation -albeit invasive for some - before AA.

I don't see them changing their policy anytime soon either.

FR is not the end of the world, as long as you don't lie, and as long as you do not do anything questionable then that's nothing to worry about.
