That's a time-limited REWARD, not a spend period requirement (not particularly different from say 0% APR for 18 months)
Apart from the second year spend model, I'm not sure what is in it for issuers to extend past three months. I'm sure some fraction get the card and don't quite meet the spend threshold, which saves issuers money
Good examples above everyone of some cards out there that offer 5-6 month bonuses or double bonuses over time. I didn't know about any of those, but to me they seem like they'd be more appealing to many. I do think that if the length of time is increased that the spend requirement should increase somewhat proportionately along with it so that people don't "forget" to use the card right out of the gate as someone mentioned on the previous page.
I'd happily sign a 5 year contract on a CSR for 250k.
