Woohoo! I got an approval!

I recently applied for a Discover card and was declined. I used the backdoor number for the recon department stickied in this forum and spoke with a lady this morning. I have only a secured credit card through BofA, currently: no other revolving accounts. I have a medical collection that is set to fall off of my credit report in the next six months and it is dragging my score down. Fortunately, the representative was willing to see past some 90 and 120 day late payments from 6 years ago, and able to see that in six months my medical collection would disappear. She approved me, albiet a small credit line, but I'm thrilled! I finally feel like I'm making REAL headway in rebuilding my credit.

I know I'm new and haven't posted much of anything, but I've been reading everyone's advice for over a year and I'm so thankful for everything I've learned from all of you here.

Welcome to the forum.  Having a Discover card is the best to add to one's portfolio.  Congratulations on your approval.

Congratulations!  And welcome to the forums.  It's such a wonderful feeling when you are at the end of the rebuilding road and to get approved for a major credit card.  You might have a small credit limit but there is know where to go but up.

Congrats. Discover is not an easy card to get. I applied and was declined a year ago. I will give them another go this year.

Bocklin, that's a great step forward!  Congrats!  And don't be too concerned about the small limit; Discover is very conservative with new accounts, regardless of credit scores.  But they'll definitely grow with you.

Congratulations Bocklin and welcome. I too recently joined the discover family about six months ago. Don't worry about the small credit limit because if im not mistaken, they should be giving you CLI every three months for the first year. I too started with a small limit.

I, too, was declined for Discover last fall. I waited for their letter to make sure I knew why I was declined. Then I worked up the courage to call them. I was approved, too.

I got the courage to do that from reading these forums.
