Have ppl been getting bad retention offers from amex? My friend who usually puts a lot on his card and usually gets his AF fee waived (in return MR pts) cancelled his card this yr bc they wouldnt waive it this yr.
I dont spend as much as him but i put $15k annual spend and was only offered 2500 MR and then an additional 7500 after spending 1k in 60 days. Which isnt hard so i should get 7500 MRs in the end. But still a pretty weak offer imo. I prob should have hung up and tried w another CSR but was too lazy.
What have other ppl been getting?
Your best bet to find out what other people are getting for Amex retention offers is to look on FlyerTalk. Dedicated thread there about the topic.
Called to cancel my Amex Platinum a week ago, was offered 20000 MR points with 3k spend and also with 100 account credit, but declined and was eventually offered PC to PRG with the first years annual fee waived which I took.

That seems like a somewhat decent plat retention offer, although its no fun to spend on the plat card because of the lack of bonus categories.
since amex changed in to 1 bonus/card in the lifetime you have lost 50k MR for the PRG unless you got that prior.

Except for the issue if lokobo did not have a PRG sign up bonus in the past, that now goes poof --- All gone.
The 20,000 bonus, without having to use a HP, along with the $100 AF reduction seems like a good offer. The 3k spend becomes 23k MR points so getting 7 MR per dollar for that spend, plus the benefits of the Platinum for another year on $350 cash cost.
If the PRG was desired, maybe better to just app for that on the 50k offer since that has first year no AF anyway.

Agreed. I wouldn't PC to the prg unless I had already gotten the bonus in the past.
I haven't had the need to cancel anything nor do I have cards that don't have justified AF's to threaten cancellation for a retention offer. I'd +1 the suggestion to check out the dedicated thread on FT.
