Any visa/master card with no FTF is good . If your husband is American/European he'll be treated like a king .
I haven't been there in 10 yrs but I used amex while there.
CLI the hell out of your Amex before you go and app one if you don't already have one. If you ever need to transfer it to another country Amex will transfer your card to your new country and bring your balance across. They may be more favourable to CLI while you are still a US resident with US income.

You are referring to Global Transfer? It depends on the country pair, and probably the individual, but there have been posts here of people getting (much) lower CLs than on their home card. And sometimes you can keep the other card, sometimes not. All a little magic!
