i was trying to help my friend get a lower rate on his car and sent him to the same credit union i use. His credit score came back as a 430! even on the first day my chapter 7 showed up on my report i was still well over 500 so it makes little sense to me. He did tell me he filed chapter 7 around 3 years ago and has had nothing but installment loans since. In my mind i am thinking he has multiple lates with the installment but he will not say...any advice on this one? sdfcu maybe?
Secured Credit Card only way i can see it work

When he tells you installed, does he mean payday loans he isn't paying?!
i don't suggest any credit until he pulls his reports and starts to address them, the errors from the bk might be a big portion, who knows at this point.
When my score was that low I had like 5 judgements, 13 collections and everything was 120+ or charged off. But I still had a 460 score =/
Secured card as above poster said may be the only way to get something to start. May try Capitalone Platinum they seem to have easier standards but =/ who knows!
He must have other baddies on his report, or something he is not paying (fraud maybe???). Secured card or as japakar said Cap1 Platinum. When I was rebuilding for my mom whom was in the low 500's she was approved for a Cap1 Platinum $300 limit and also approved for a Walmart $250 limit. She kept everything under 10% to rebuild.
I seriously doubt he would even qualify for a secured card, he would need to address the problems first that are causing that low of a score.
Your friend is not paying his bills/loans what not. There's no other reason his scores would be so low even with a 3 year old BK.
You want advice? Don't lend him any money. You'll never see it again.

i could tell a nice story about deer hunting with him.......never saw that gas money either
Has he checked to make sure there are no errors on his report?
Otherwise he must actively not be paying on those loans & such.
