cash + and Amazon

How do we know for sure that the cash + doesn't count Amazon as a bookstore?  It's up to Visa to determine that, right?  If I was US Bank, I know I wouldn't openly advertise that fact.  Thoughts?

Yes, we need someone who has bought a Kindle book on a card that allows you to see the MCC.   I would be very surprised if they were coded specially, but: I would have thought the same about gas pumps being coded differently than the gas station, and they are....

Re: cash + and Amazon

I see there was a partial answer on FT:

Kindle appears on Forward as Record Store.    So maybe Cash Plus won't give 5% on all Amazon, but will on all record stores!  (Which is much less useful for most).

For Visa and MC only,

* If it is Amazon Digital (Kindle, MP3, eBook, PC video game download, etc), it is labeled as record store.

* If it is Amazon or Amazon Marketplace, it is labeled as book store.

* If it is Amazon Payments, it is labeled as professional service.

* If it is Amazon Prime subscription fee, it is labeled as direct marketing.

In My Wallet:
Citi Forward (12/2010) | Citi Dividend (05/2011) | Chase Freedom (11/2011) | GECRB/PayPal (05/2012)

An issuer can still choose not to count a certain merchant as that category for giving rewards.

E.g. Amex and certain Walmart locations which are categorized as "supermarkets" or "grocery stores."

I won't dare try it with Amex.  But, what about Visa?  Are there known instances of them doing that?
