chase freedom...

Called csr today and they looked at my credit and said they can give me freedom if i close out slate

In my wallet: AMEX Gold; Freedom $1.5k; CSP $5k; Chase United $5k; Discover $2k

I have to pay my slate to $0 first... at least ill get cash back $200 after spending $500

Gotcha. So its not a product change then? They are closing Slate and issuing a new account for Freedom?

Sounds like they don't want to extend you more credit than the $500(?) they have already extended to you on the Slate. The way I see it you have two options. Close the Slate and get the Freedom or stop being so app insane and wait for all those cards to age and those INQs to fall off and they would probably have no problem issuing you the Freedom with the Slate with a much better limit.
