Hello
I have been reading alot about credit union.
Any idea what credit union can one apply in the state of NJ?
Thanks !
I've belonged to E53 FCU for 20 years. Have had my paycheck distributed there and used their bill payer with no problems whatsoever. Also a Visa card through them. They are the 18th oldest CU in the US and have been in business for 75 years. Check 'em out to see if you are eligible. www.e53fcu.org
Depends where you live in Jersey
Can share my experience.
Affinity FCU, can join via some organizations like The friends of Abraham Staat house.
If you live in Monmouth or Ocean counties - First Financial FCU or/and United Teletech FCU (First FFCU is better)
Middlesex countyresidents can join Raritan Bay FCU
Check your employer, if he offers any CU's as a benefit.
If you work in healthcare you can join Health Employers FCU
And of course, big national CUs like Penfed, Navy (if eligible), NASA, Justice, Agriculture, Addison Avenue, PSECU (IF ELIGIBLE) Alliant (strongly not recomended) and etc.

You don't necessarily have to pick one in NJ (keep in mind if you don't qualify for membership in a local CU). I've been a member of a FL credit union for about 14 years, but I've lived the last 9 of those in PA. You just have to find one with good online access.
A month ago a friend suggested that I join Affinity FCU, because he got a good deal on a car loan from them 3 years ago. I reside in a different state altogether, and didn't even bother to see if I could qualify for membership. I didn't even fully understand how CU membership enrollment worked exactly. The dude said just apply and see. Well, they essentially took me on having matched me to absolutely nothing on their membership elibility list.
