I just had my very first experience (bad) with Barclay's. Called recon 3 different times 3 days in a roll with a Discover FICO of 706 so don't despair too much over them. They refused Sallie Mae on the same grounds (so they say), the UW's even complimented my good history of "unsecured" note loans from a regional bank, auto loan, etc.
What freaked them out was my newest BofA. No amount of evidence to the contrary in my favor did any good.
The very same week after i finally give up on them i got approved for my first 5k Limit with one of their competitors.

It's probably because the accounts are too new? They're not fans of a bunch of new accounts (not sure when exactly they would consider an account not new but up to a year is definitely new)

Reasons for denial - Too many recent inquries and Too many new accounts
I have 8 accounts reporting that are 1-4 months old, 2 that are 9 months old and one that just turned 1 year. My auto loan is also only 9 months old.
If you are interested in Barclay's give it time. Let your new accounts age and then you can reapply when they are closer to a year old.
Have you checked Chase's or Discover's website to see if you're prequalifed for Freedom or IT?
