does citi bank approve credit cards for post BK? What other major bank will?

Have two major credit cards (Cap-1 and HSBC).  Zero balances as of this month.  Waiting on scores to update (high 600's now) and thinking of applying for another major credit card after that.  Wondering if Citi Bank accepts BK's?  Other suggestions for credit cards who approve post BK? I noticed BoA application online asks about being "clear of previous BK's", so I figured they will not approve.

Congratulations!  You have two lovely bank CCards post BK - nice work!

A few quick questions:  What are your CL's?  How old are your current cc's?  BK CH7 or CH13?  When was BK discharged?

If you're looking for a third card that is BK friendly, you might consider a second HSBC or CapOne.  Also Macy's and GEMB cards.  BofA is twitchy right now - I would definitely wait on them.

Also, check out BK Friendly Credit Cards Listed (included under Helpful Threads on the top of this forum).

Good work - congrats on rebuilding after BK!

Re: does citi bank approve credit cards for post BK? What other major bank will?

Thanks for your reply!  BK was chp. 13, discharged 07.  CC's since 05, HB-$2200 (they offered 1 CLI) Cap1 $500 (have not offered me a CLI).  I applied for a Dillards card about 1/12 years ago and they sent the AMEX instead of the store card, with $1400.  I have an American Eagle store card $300, and a Kohls card $2000 (several CLI's).  I have not tried to get credit lines increased, none of the cards have very good interest rates.  I travel a lot and would like to get a reward type card, or a lower interest rate card.  I am looking at credit unions and considering joining and perhaps sometime applying for one of their cards.  Don't know when the fico will be updated, just paid everything off end of August...Any advice is appreciated, I'm just not wanting an inquiry that will pull my score back if I don't get approved for the card.  Thanks again!

Hey smallfry - it looks like someone was quoting you and a plethora of lovely cards.  It's an older post - but was all this post BK?  WTG!  (And *I wanna be like you-ou!*)

My experiences over the last two plus months. Credit unions seem to be the most BK friendly and are the most generous with credit limits. Navy Federal and Pentagon Federal. Be prepared to provide pay stubs for Penfed and they are much more conservative than the Navy. IF you can get into Navy Federal you must do it. By far the most generous. I got a fairly decent credit limit with Juniper Sea Miles instant approval as well. $7500 but to be fair I had nothing showing on my reports at the time. It was the first in the mini aporama. I received small credit limits from Citi (3K) and Chase (5K) late in the spree. If I had to do it again I thin I would have waited the 3 years to apply for the Citi and Chase cards since the limits are very small. I dunno. My scores took the biggest jump after increasing the number of credit cards from 2 to 4 and available credit limit from 12K to 30K. After the next 5 cards and 60K credit hit my reports I went from EX 705 to 684. So all in all I went from 12K available credit to over 90K brought utilization down from 56% to under 1% and saw my scores just a smidge higher over the course of two months. I am 15 points higher on EQ and TU and 12 higher on EX. I would suggest if you have a BK showing to be careful what you are applying for and do not waste inquiries if you can help it. AMEX is a 99% no go with a BK. Citi and Chase you can get but do not expect large limits at first.

Yes Beam that was all about 7 years post BK7 but remember that was the tail end of easy credit. Now I don't think it would be so easy.

At LEAST until they send you a written invitation (a pre-approval letter), maybe longer.  You might have to hold off pining over the major bank cards and wait until they want you.  You know, like pining after the prom queen when you're a spindly little eighth grader.  You'll have to build up some maturity and maybe even bulk up a little before she'll give you a second look.  And it'll take some time.......

For right now, take out the cards that want to go out with you and enjoy their good company - you'll show that you're a good reliable date and it'll pay off later when you find the girl you want to keep forever.
