I have a question for you all I have a discharged the bankruptcy from over six year ago and have recently paid off all my credit cards with high balances down to zero
capitalone 0/750
capitalone 0/1500
sears solution mastercard 0/570
merrick bank 0/1000
creditone bank 0/400
bestbuy 0/1800
hhgregg 0 /2000
Certain credit cards that have recently been paid off have not yet reported but my last fico was like 680 however with paying everything with high balces off like i did the fico will be over 700
My question is can i get approved for more main stream crediit cards like discovery and american express even with my bankruptcy
Wondering what info and the help you can all give and what card you recommend ..............................
Probably not until your bk is 7-8 years old. Barclays is bk-friendly.
Hey and thanks for the response, so no matter how good my recent credit is when applying for companies like american express if i have a six year old the bankruptcy they will be auto declining me ??

American Express might be a touch cookie to crack, especially since your BK is not at least 7 years old. Once it hits the 7 year mark then you should have a very good chance of being approved for AMEX.
to build your credit, I would try Chase Bank as that is one of the well-known prime lenders.
How many inquiries do you have on each of the three credit beaureas in the past 12 months?
I would apply for the Chase Freedom. If you get denied, call the back door number for Chase recon (sticky on the main forums credit card board). Chase should be able to get you approved. Good luck!
try walmart
also wait until your credit cards have reported your paid balances. It's always good to have total utilization under 9%.

Dump the CreditOne before apping to Amex.

Thanks so very much to alll that have responded with all the feedback and help
Oh and I currently have 1 inquiries over the past year
And yeah i was planning on canceling that creditone as well an thanks for that link letting me know it is good to do so
Also with all the available balances at zero is it good to keep them at zero or better to have a bit of a balance as long as it does not exceed 10% available credit
And also i have no late payment what so ever on my credit so that is good as well
So you are thinking base on my credit i am having a awesome chance at getting a freedom card then ??
Once more thanks sooo very much too all that commented here

I would call that very optimistic. Your chances for getting approved for an AMEX definitely goes up over time but there are LOTS of people on these forum who have been denied with a >8 year old BK. AMEX prefers no BK but will sometimes approve with a BK reporting
As with everything, YMMV.
