hard inquiries...how many is too much?

Just curious, how many inquiries is considered too much?
as of right now, i have a total of 17 iq's.  5 from TU, 10 from EX, and 2 from EQ.
now, 6 of those will drop off by years' end.
but right now, i have 17.
is this considered too much?
whats a high number of iqs?

IMO- more than 2 hurts your score-

Some creditors will deny for too many INQ's

They only count in scoring for 1 year.

Yes, more than 2 tends to start hurting you.       I read that FICO's research has shown that anyone with 6 or more in the last 12 months have are 8 times more likely to file bankruptcy.    I had about 16 in 10 months, and a year later I filed!

Just remember that after 12 months, they no longer affect your score.

My Amex Plus score simulator does not even like one inq on the report! - about 10-15 points for 1 or 2 inqs.  Once you are over 7 it does not seem to care any more

Re: hard inquiries...how many is too much?

i have 9 hards on eq alone from last month and my score went up. I believe it depends on your approvals and denials also. or should i say your overall cr info, not just the inq.

Re: hard inquiries...how many is too much?

What I tried to say was that it depends on what you are trying to do.  For scoring purposes, it seems the higher the score, the bigger the hit.  However there does seem to be some sort of plateau as far as it dinging you... (I've reached it).  That being said, too many inquiries can cause lenders to get wonky and start doing things like lowering limits or raising rates, dependant upon the lender of course.  If you're not apping anytime soon and not afraid of current relationships.. have at it...NOT!  In todays lending environement, fewer is always better.
