After we close on our home and our loan is funded we need to make some furniture and appliance purchases from 2 stores. Is it better to get one high limit credit card or do 2 smaller limit store cards? The furniture store that gave us the best pricing uses Synchrony as their credit and we are looking at Best Buy for the appliances. We currently have 2 car loans and 1 cc that has a small limit of $3500, an Amazon card with no balance and our average score is 700.
I think it depends on what your needs are. You could certainly get a bankcard with 0% intro. However, the intro period may not be as long as the special financing offers you get from the store cards. I'd definitely check both very carefully, if that is an issue.
You may even decide to do one of each. Perhaps you only need 12-15 months to pay off the appliances; if that's the case, a new major CC might be a better choice for you. Or you might apply at Best Buy and get the MC (soon to convert to Visa) version.
Since Amazon has special financing for purchases of $150+, you may also consider that for certain appliance purchases.
