Re: my plan...

I really do not think this is a good idea. You mention the interest rates on the accounts, but do you carry a balance on those cards? If not, I do not see what the issue is. The two Chase cards you were just approved for each have a 15% rate which is not really all that low. As others have said, you should never put all faith in one institution. Just because they approved you for 2 5000 cards does not mean that they will love you forever. They can close down the cards for any reason and then you will be left with nothing. Moving investments has nothing to do with them closing cards.

I don't understand why people judge companies on customer service. I hardly speak to customer service, so I couldn't care less if a company has good or bad. Of course it is a plus for the service to be good, though.

Bank of America/FIA will raise limits pretty fast after you get the card. Have you tried for an increase with them? They would probably have no problem giving a 5000 limit but you could ask for more so they can counter. Macys limits also grow quickly.

You said you can not use the coupons for what you want, but have you tried to use it? It says Ralph Lauren is excluded but I use the coupons for that all of the time.

I know it's your life and your decision, but I do not believe it is beneficial to close all cards from other issuers. If it has no annual fee I would just leave it open. People are under the impression that having very low limits on some cards can stop you from getting high limits on other cards. In my experience it has not stopped me at all and no credit analyst has ever asked why I have a low limit on the card.

Honestly, Afbar, Don't close ANYTHING.  If you don't use it again, then simply don't use it and it will close all by itself.  As will all the other cards you don't want to use.  Keeping credit accounts active every 3-6 months can help your credit reports, and shouldn't be a big deal.  Why in the world do you want to close something that can help you later in life?

+100, especially since right now your util is around 40-50%! Now is not the time to be worried about closing accounts which you clearly need for util purposes...

Do whatever you want to do, Afbar.  it doesn't make any difference what anyone suggests, it seems.  So close it and all of the other cards you don't feel you want to keep.  You have my blessing, and I'm sure anyone else's that is tired of givng you advice you don't take.  Smiley Happy
