new AmEx holder and where not to use card question

I never paid attention to the discussions of where not to use the card because I idn't have one bny I did 2 weeks ago got a BCE

Is it ok to use to pay for hotels and use for incidentals hold at Casino Resorts such as MGM and Harrah's?

I would think it would be and not cause a review but was just curious on thoughts

Just use the card. I honestly doubt they care as much about where you use it at. Their main concern is probably how much you are using and how much you are paying back, relative to your income.

That being said, there's rumors about Amex having scoring systems on "type" of purchases, but it's really just for promotional targeted offers, such as to determine if you qualify for the centurion, etc.

Stick with the same rules for any card. Spend what you can pay back, and avoid cash advances.

Just use your card and stop worrying much. They get money based on your usage.

I have used my card from Night clubs to Casinos to Hotels to Gas Stations to Walmart to Paying IRS tax bills.

I think besides a strip club I have used it every place else. I run upwards of 50K per year between my Zync and Platinum. No AA ever till date

Use the card whereever you want. Whoever said you can't use your Amex certain places was pulling someones chain. I use mine daily anywhere and everywhere. Welcome to the Amex Family! Don't leave home without it! ha

I used it anywhere Amex is accepted. A lot of people said don't shop at Walmart, I go in and buy stuff there all the time. Ranging from $1-300+ no problem at all.

Using it for down payment, etc and PIF. Not a problem at all.

AMEX just had WalMart deal...I think it was $25 off of $75 or more purchase.

+1. The only other thing that Amex may look out for is major changes in your spending pattern. For example if you've been charging 10k per month at luxury places for the past 10 years, and then suddenly start charging 2k per month at all discount stores, it may send up some red flags. They're essentially looking for indicators that your financial situation has changed (and therefore you've become an increased risk to them). Otherwise just use as normal relative to your income, always PIF, and don't go overboard on stuff like MS which may trigger a FR.

If hotels and casino resorts were not ok they would lose a lot of valuable customers and many of us would have little use for our AmEx cards.  Use it don't worry.

Always consider your sources and corroborate.
