old closed Cap1 CC not reported...UPDATE

I had a Cap1 MC that was closed around 2008 or 2009 but does not show on the CRs I just got from annualcreditreport.com. Since I've never seen my CR before I don't know if it was ever there. Why would it not be there? Do closed CC ever drop of in this short of time? If the account was there it would be beneficial to my AAoA (there was also never a late payment so it would't hurt). Should I try to get this reported and if so how do I do that?

Closed accounts tend to stay around for up to 10 yrs but they can drop at anytime. If the account is in good standing with no negative factors you could call Cap-1 and ask them to report it to the CRAs.

Re: old closed Cap1 CC not reported

Thanks. Does anyone know if the regular CS number would work or is that just for current accounts and would not be helpfull for my situation?

If you know the account number you can try the CSRs but I would probably submit the request directly to the EO.

Re: old closed Cap1 CC not reported

Well I tried calling one of the backdoor account specialist phone numbers. I was on the phone for at least 20 minutes but no matter what info I gave them they could not find a record of the closed account. It's like it never even existed. She even consulted with her supervisor and checked archived accounts with no luck. She also had me give her the phone number on the back of the card (I had found an old card in my records) because I think she thought it wasn't a real Cap1 card but another similar sounding card. It is Cap1. I even have old statements from them. She mentioned that if it had never been used it might not show up but the statements prove that the card had been in use (it was closed due to inactivity but it had been used previously). Has anyone else had this happen? Is there anything else I can do at this point or do you guys think it's a lost cause and I should just forget about it?

Re: old closed Cap1 CC not reported

Keep trying if you want/need the credit history. Eventually someone will find the account.

But, if your file is thick enough, the chances are that this extra tradeline won't make a difference. For example, I have 28 tradelines on my Experian with an AAoA of almost 5 years. If I "found" a tradeline from 2009 and placed it on my report, it wouldn't even increase my AAoA. Everyone is going to get a different impact from an old tradeline, but if you have enough open and closed accounts in good standing already reporting to your CRs, then it might not be worth the hassle.

In My Wallet: Amex BCP (12/12) $50,000, Chase Freedom (12/12) $16,500, Cap1 Quicksilver (6/12) $14,000, Barclaycard Rewards (5/13) $10,500, Citi Prestige (4/16) $30,000

Re: old closed Cap1 CC not reported

Thanks, unfortunately there's not much in my file so maybe I'll keep trying.  What I have is good (and long) with no baddies but there is just not very many TL, so any new ones I open drop the AAoA a lot. I have 2 open CCs from 1997 and 1998 and a closed store card opened in 2005 and closed in 2008. The one that is not showing up was opened sometime between 1999 and 2001. I know it was still active untill at least 2008 so I have no idea why it would just vanish. I just opened one new CC but I'm hesitant to open up even more (I only want one more) because of the drastic drop in AAoA.

Re: old closed Cap1 CC not reported

UPDATE:

I just wanted to let everyone know what happened in case this could be helpful to someone else. The account was located by emailing the EO (calling the regular and backdoor numbers did no good as nobody could find a record of the account). I got a phone call within two days from a lady who was very polite and helpful. However, she told me that the account still can not be reported to the CRAs because even though the account was still open until about 5 years ago, it had been inactive since 2003. The accounts can be reported for ten years from the date of last activity on the account not from the date the account  was finally closed. I don't know if this applies to other CCCs or if this policy is specific to Cap1 but it's helpful to know that if you let a CC close due to inactivity it can stop being reported earlier than expected.
