paypal smart connect-driving me crazy

I can understand a payment taking a little while to clear with my new account but over 2 weeks and a phone call for 100 dollar payment! Doesnt that seem a little crazy? Heres the worst part ive been using paypal with the same boa checking account for over 5 years and thats the account I made the payment with for the smart connect. I am wondering how much longer it would have been if I didnt make the phone call to them? I guess its my fault for having to deal with crappy credit card companies cause I have a low credit score. I cant wait to get over 700 and get a discover and amex.

Did you send it through your BofA Bill Pay or through your PayPal Account?

This is a GE account and you have to send it through your Bill Pay at your bank or you run the risk of the very long holds on payments... don't always get it when it's coming direclty through paypal.

Re: paypal smart connect-driving me crazy

I sent it thru PayPal not boa bill pay. This is crazy I'm about ready to cancel this card. Don't they want people to be able to spend more money

Re: paypal smart connect-driving me crazy

Yup. It's very annoying and confusing. I paid them through their site as well as pushed a payment through bill pay. The payments show that they were received, but my available spending power hasn't moved an inch. I tried calling, but had a horrible issue with a language barrier. I tried emailing, and that wasn't any better. They just told me to try and call again to talk to them. The website shows my balance owed is $40... yet my spending power, if deducted from my limit is STILL basically showing a balance owed of $103. I don't get it at all. I can not seem to get them to fix it. I'm just going to ride it out for one statement, then pay the $40 and cancel the account. I'm not going to have my UTL sky high (my limit is super low on that account) simply because they have some weird billing / account crediting issue.

Re: paypal smart connect-driving me crazy

I have dealt with this very same issue and did call up a few times to work it out:

Bottom line is this: If you make your PPSC payment right on site (you click "pay your bill" or whatever) and then use your checking account as the "funding source" it's an "eCheck".

PayPal's system places an automatic hold on your payment for 20 days.

Your payment will show as being received.

Your balance will reflect the payment.

However, your "spending power" - or available credit - won't budge.

And this stays as such LONG AFTER the payment has cleared your checking account.

The system will then automatically take the hold off the payment on the 20th day after you made your payment and it will reflect in your "spending power".

As many here have discovered, YES, you can call PPSC up and they can manually "release" the payment either A) on your word payment has cleared on your end or B) by providing a fax showing the payment made to PPSC has cleared, usually this is your chcking account statement (this is rarely requested however).

The second piece of info is this:

Depending on how long you've had your PPSC account and how long you've been using the same "funding source" to pay your bill, the automatic hold is as long as 20 days but can also be as little as 10 days OR you calling PPSC and having them release the funds which is wholly at the discretion of whomever you're talking to.

Hope that information helps.

Re: paypal smart connect-driving me crazy

They finally updated my account today. 20 days after one payment, and 11 days after another payment (I'm going off the number of days since the money was debited from my checking account.) I was wrong about pushing payments through my bank.. that payment was the first one I made, and was credited much sooner than the last two were. So, in the future if I use this account I will pay it through bill pay- pushing the money from my checking account. I will not pay them through their website any more.

I believe they have a pay account or something.. Target does it too... it's an account number that wouldn't allow you to charge or anything but it links direct to your account when you send payments to it... kind of like a routing number so to speak.
