Does anyone have any exprience with opening a credit card that had been closed several year prior?
I will first confess this was a not so smart thing to do but it happened. About 7 years ago I had a Discover and Citi card. I had about 5000 on each. I was having trouble paying and did a debt consolidation and with this the accounts were closed. My situation has improved dramaticaly in the past 5 years. My question is do credit card companies re open closed accounts? I would like to know if this hurts my chances of getting an account with these same companies? The balances were paid on both cards.
If it has been 7 years check see if they are gone from your credit reports. If so you will have to reapply I don't think Discover will blacklist you I'm not sure about Citi. I doubt many credit card will reopen after a few months.
Most banks that I know of will not reopen an account after it's closed, even if it's 5 minutes later. I think most of them will tell you that you have to reapply.
Always have to reapply as your credit and income have changed over time for better or worse
