Both of these cards are co-branded by Capital One as I said above. So I'm not sure if anyone knows how often it needs to be used. Anyone know?

I varies wildly. My better half went well over 4 years withj no adverse effects. For example, if the card is with your relationship bank they will probbaly let it go a LONG time.
Every 6 months would be plenty of activity in general.
If the CL is not tiny, you are probably wise to keep it.
I pay small monthly bills with my sock drawered cards, like Netflix/Spotify etc, then pay in full. It takes the thought out of remembering to charge on the card every few months
