the ITCH is bothering me!

when i first started out i had little hope. i had around 10 collections on each report and zero credit history. not even cap one nor bank of america wanted to give me a secured card. so i hit up first premier then the first month they reported i called boa on a recon and was successfull at that. then i found out great news about navy federal so i joined them too and added a secured card with them. now here we are almost 6 months later and equifax has ZERO baddies and transunion have ZERO baddies but experian just has 2. the urge to go after my first unsecured card wants to get to me.

First off Congrats on getting on track & road to great credit! What are your current scores? Depending on your scores you can begin to explore what options would be good even maybe a store card GE or something that gives CLI pretty frequently with no hard pull.

Starting Score: Feb 2012 TU FICO 639, EQ FICO 638, EX FICO 602
Current Score: TU Wal-FICO 673, EQ FICO 638, EX Amex 646

It sounds like you've made great progress. It's great that you joined Navy, but you might also look at some local CUs. You still have a short credit history, so unless you want to go the way of Cap One no-CLI CC, I think your best bet is going to be a CU. I called several in my area until I found one that I felt would give me a chance and grow with me. They started me out at $500 in June, but CLI in Jan to $2500. That's way better than my 2 Cap Ones still sitting at $500 and $750 (one about to be axed).

Re: the ITCH is bothering me!

I recently also opened Walmart card mainly for the scores and the CLI. Good luck and the store cards is how I started along with Orchard 2 years ago. Now I have Amex Zync, Amex TU, Citi Thank you and Barclays. Good luck and hang in there patience is the best advice!

Re: the ITCH is bothering me!

I would say Citi no, unless you ate going for the student card IMO, I opened my Citi Thank you from a pre-approval I received. Barclays I did open from a denied with hardly no inquiries. I called the backdoor number for a recon, that card had grown with me also every 6 months.

I don't believe Wally World uses fico to determine risk, they have their own internal scoring algorithm. Also it seems the walmart card caters to less than perfect credit profiles so your thin file may not be an issue in their eyes.

myFICO is the consumer division of FICO. Since its introduction 20 years ago, the FICO® Score has become a global standard for measuring credit risk in the banking, mortgage, credit card, auto and retail industries. 90 of the top 100 largest U.S. financial institutions use the FICO Score to make consumer credit decisions.
