trying to get a new cc

hello all,

  i have a few questions.

quick background

i have 2 open autos both new one from ally bank (aug of 2013) one from credit acceptance (feb of 2013)

i  have a few collections although they are very old.

i have denied the cap one secured

i am looking for advise on how to get preferabble an unsecured cc even a jcp store card.

am i better off going to jcpennys and applying?

if denied i can have them call and get a manual review?

i got the manual review on my ally auto loan.

everything thing i have read, leads me to believe i should get approved for something.

my tu score is a 573 being held back by a bunch of inquiries.

How many INQs do you have?  

I got my JCP from a pre-approval.  I was barely into the 600s at that time.  JCP is backed by GE and GE doesn't do recons if you're denied for an account.  I wouldn't recommend you apply for them at this time, although you might get a pre-approval once you improve your scores.

As for collections, they're considered a serious derogatory mark, so they have a strong effect on your reports for as long as they're on them.  They will fall from around 7 to 7 1/2 years from when the original account first went delinquent.   Are the collections valid?   Are they medical collections?  Are they anything you are willing to settle on?   If you're considering cleaning up your reports, I'd highly recommend going on the "Rebuilding" section, since the folks there have a lot of good information.
