I'm wanting to eventually get out of toy limits, but I want to go with a CU because Im reading they give better limits, for the most part. I have never been a member of a CU. I don't know the process, but there are two that I see people on here raving about. So..
NFCU- My grandfather served in the military and so did my uncle. What type of proof will they need? My grandfather passed away over 20 years ago. Will that be enough to qualify?
DCU- I'm seeing a lot of people get free scores for banking with them. Also seeing people being offered preapprovals from both.
My main goal is to bank with one of them and hope to get a pre approval offer sometime next year. Im in no rush, but I refuse to apply for anymore cards. Im letting my current cards age and waiting for auto CLIs, but in the meantime if I can get a preapproval Id love to get out of toy limits.
What would you smart people suggest?
If you'd like to find a local credit union, you can take a look at www.creditunion.coop. They have a search engine for local credit unions.

Call NFCU and ask. Also anyone can join DCU so far they are being very generous with me. I been a member for 4 months and i have a 17.5k cc with them. They will need paystubs and stuff but well worth it.
Nice limit! It looks like you need to update your siggy.
Your siggy currently says: DCU platinum Visa (10000)

I will give them a call, I just didn't know what I needed to provide for them to verify my grandfather served in the military. I'm going to apply when I get my tax refund to pay off that kay jewelers card. Its carrying a balance (2k) from my recent engagement, and with the other cards having toy limits my util is high, even though its the only card with a balance.
IIRC, simply having a family member who has served in the military doesn't mean you can join. It's more complicated than that.

What about DCU? Why dont you try to join? I didnt have high utl when i joined but i did have 17 new accounts in last 6 months and they still first approved me for 7500 and then gave me a auto cli to 10k.
I've just been burned by carrying a balance on that card. I apped for a CLI with my Charter One card 9 months after it was open and was declined for util. So I dont want to take any chances. DCU sounds like the easiest option for me. I just need a card that I can put everything for the month on and pay one bill. I hate making multiple payments to multiple cards per month.
They for sure sound like a good option. As far as NFCU It asked on their site if your family member was any one of the above and I said yes, then it said you qualify. I dont know what the process is, but DCU is starting to sound like an easier option for me. Thanks jsickz32
