Re: will chase freedom grow with me

I'm another one of those apparently rare cases where I received a large Freedp, CLI via SP. I went for $3k to $15k. IMO, Chase is best suited for those with excellent credit who already have large CLs, as Chase is usually good about matching your largest CL when you apply and are accepted for a card.

That's a good point; Chase has traditionally been a prime lender only, and if you weren't prime, get lost :smileywink:.

I think they may change their policies over time, the new Freedom underwriting requirements is a first step but it's an important one, and a hopeful one for anyone in a limited or poor credit situation.

Not really.

Usually CLI's are customer initiated and require a HP. There are those who have experienced the awesomeness of getting one with just a SP by calling the executive line, but those examples are few.

It does get you a foot in with what could eventually be a CSP for you, but at least you got the Freedom.

Agreed. Auto CLIs are almost non-existant as far as I've gathered.

Though, I am an example of big SP CLI by calling the executive office. Went from $750 to $4000. Though, many things did happen between those 2 CLs that may have helped me and I had to work it through.

But in general, it's hard for it to grow unless you're proactive about it.

Hi Swifttone -

Out of curiosity, how did you manage to get that large of a cli with Chase without a hp? Also, how long did you have your card before requesting the cli?

Thanks,

I got the Chase Slate in 11/2011 with a $300 limit. I wasn't knowledgable about credit back then. I think my EX FAKO from Experian at the time was 610(it still is). I had 2 Capital Ones with $1000 and $1250/$750 limit(can't remember). My AAoA was probably 2 years, and my utilization was probably around 60-70%(YIKES)

In February/March I called for a CLI, was assured it was a SP. Got an CLI from $300 to $500. A day later, I pulled my report and it showed a HP from Chase. I called the executive office, explained the situation, they investigated and 2 days later called me back told me they recoded the HP into a SP, and gave me an addition CLI to bring my CL to $750.

In June, my Slate hit 6 months. Called back to executive office to the same woman. Asked for a CLI and PC to Freedom. She took some info regarding employment, income etc, and asked me how much I wanted. I told her that I was approved for a Discover with a CL of $3500, so I'm looking for $3500-$4000. Also told her that ultimately I want Chase to be my primary bank. I also had opened a Chase Checking account in May. Next day logged into my accunt and saw my CL is now $4000 but it's still a Slate. Received a call the next day and she told me she could'nt do a PC to Freedom until 1 year mark, but increased my CL to $4000. I was excited but also bummed out. Love the CL but I don't use the card because there are no rewards.

I was pushing atleast $1000 through the card and always PIF, sometimes multiple times a month

BCE: $0/$8500, CSP: $15/$5000, Chase Priority Club: $0/$3500, Freedom: $0/$5000, Barclays NFL: $0/$7000 Discover: $0/$5800, Citi Dividend: $0/$2000 Cap1 x2 $0/$2250

Re: will chase freedom grow with me

I think like any card, they like to see usage and how you handle your current limit.

That said, I'm not sure how high they will go as far as CL's are concerned. You don't see much discussion about high CL Chase cards.

Thanks for that quick reply SWIFTONE and for sharing that info, ill def. Be taking your advice. None of the limits on my cards are that high but I just did get a personal loan for 5k through my credit union. Do u think I could use that for leverage, even tho it isn't a CC LIMIT?

Unless you use the funds from the loan to open a secured CC, I don't really see it as leverage.

Some banks will not report secured CCs as secured. It'll look just like a regular CC

Honestly, this is a YMMV situation. Let your current accounts age ,and your score will go up, then with higher score, that might help with getting higher CL's

My experience was that the Big CL didn't come overnight. It came from 13 yrs of my Discover Card "growing with me"  In other words, the issuer extended more credit based on my past history and responsible use of the card.   When I applied for new TLs, specifically Chase, NFCU, and Zync, they matched my Discover CL because I'd already proven myself capable of handling that much spending power.

NFCU seems to give huge CL's out, if you're eligible. AmEx offers SP CLI's I believe, so that might be a good place to start.

Yeah, just those of us without NFCU eligibility are sorta hosed there, as they're the only ones that offer 5K+ tradelines to deep subprime people.

Amex offers SP's true, but you need to be around a 700 FICO to get one of their revolvers.

USAA if you're a full member offers pretty good unsecured lines.

Everyone else mostly matches what you already have or thereabouts, though I'd certainly be interested in hearing other stories.  Silly tricks with secured cards are really the only method for most surprime folks to artificially inflate their CL's to the point that higher ones become more readily available from other lenders.
