Experian now administers your Social Security information

http://www.experian.com/blogs/news/2012/05/17/social-security/

How about them apples?

Oddly enough, the person who pointed me to this had this to say:

"One incident after some strange credit events took me 6 weeks and a 25 page letter documenting errors that needed to be corrected.  One bank supervisor during my ordeal candidly told me Experian always had the most errors, but they were the least expensive and that's why they were used so often."

AFAIK they're just offering online what was sent to us on a semi-regular basis via postal mail.

The title is a misnomer, probably should've been edited long ago; however, according to the article they are simply using Experian's identity verification service, no differently than hundreds of other institutions.

Your social security information is still administered and maintained by the SSA.  Whether that's a good thing or not depends on your perspective.
