Haven't the faintest idea why this wasn't addressed long ago, it's not as if EMV is new technology.
I'm aware of the penalty box using a chip card, and pretty much every time I have to insert a card, the cashier is either apologetic, or we're both rolling our eyes at how long it takes.
It's definitely an issue, kudos to Visa for trying to fix it... though they darned well better integrate it for every transaction network if we're going to force retailers to upgrade, again. I should probably try Apple Pay anyway personally.
