I'd like to have 750 credit scores. I'm still learning about credit scoring, the more I read the more I learn about the different types of scores.
At this point it looks like the number of inquiries I have, which equals 7, are too many.
The other issue is total amount of debt to credit limit.
I have 5 active cards, down from 13. I should have 2 more paid off by March 2010. Two more cards have very high balances and I'm waiting until February/March billing to see how American Express and Bank of America will really change their policies and see how they affect my payments. There was some space between the limit and the balance, but both companies lowered the limit.
I will not apply for a home equity loan, but may consider using some retirement funds to pay down the debt. I will have to work a little longer. What worries me is that I only have enough to pay each card down to 1/2 or to pay only one card. If both companies lower the limit down to the balance again, then I'm in the same credit score box as before.
I'm also thinking of asking of AM and/or BoA will convert my balance to installment payments and lower the rates, but anytime I call they take the opportunity to lower my limit to my balance.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I just checked my score in about a year and a half. It was 590-600, now it's 658 & 654!! Wahoo! Hehe!! I have a lot on my balances though, and by May I will be done paying it off. I am hoping by the end of the year it get to 720. I will be working hard to get my score better. But, I guess besides paying off my cards, all I can do is wait... time is the only thing I guess.

My Goal for 2010 is to reach the 700 Club.
TU=654, EQ=668 as of 1/18/10
I plan on not applying for credit, continue to pay bills on time and wait for inquiries to fall off!

1. Goal: 650 (700 if possible)
2. Currently at 577/579 (TU & EQ)
3. Get rid of at least 80% - 100% of my baddies (let the paying off/letter writing begin!) and establish a revolving account.
