AMEX Delta Due Date

I called AMEX just now to see if they could change the due date for me but was told that it would screw up my Delta Skymiles that I've earned. Has anyone dealt with this? I'm just curious and want to know if that was really true or not.

02/17/2021: 654 (EX), 633 (EQ), 608 (TU)

I have changed my due date on a Chase/United visa with no problems.

I do not understand why it would "screw up" your Delta Skymiles that you already earned. I would definitely call back and ask again, and if they tell you the same thing then ask for a detailed reason why it would change your Skymiles already earned. I am curious to know their reasoning behind this.
