Accepting a settlement

I am planning on purchasing a home soon, but I have a few things on my credit report.  I was just about to pay a debt when I was offered a settlement through a third party that bought my delinquent CC account.  The settlement is really good (cut the debt in half), but will that erase the debt off of my credit report?

Not unless you make that deal with them up front, or it's past the SOL to remain on your report.

Re: Accepting a settlement

Hi Ginger, welcome to the forum. In order for it to come off of your CRs, you have to get a PFD. If not, it will just update to paid collection (no good for you). If it's past CRTP, as Shnapple stated, then it needs to come off anyway. Good deal $ wise, yes. Good deal fico-wise, not unless you get the PFD.

BTW, read Credit Scoring 101, if you haven't already. GL.
