Authorized user status is killing me!!! Help!

When I first went away to college, my mom added me as an authorized user on all of her American Express cards.  Several years later, my mom became seriously ill and was unable to work, so she got seriously delinquent with her payments and they were subsequently canceled by Amex.

She was able to work out a deal with them to slowly, very s l o w l y pay off the cards and has been doing this for several years.  The problem is that those balances are on my credit report and are counted in my util.

I had a bk discharged in July 06 and got an Orchard bank in Mar 07 that I have maintained a low balance (less than 5%) and it currently has a $0 balance.  When I pulled my FICO scores on Friday, my util was at 97% due to the balances on my mom's Amex accounts.

Is there anything that I can do about this? I currently have an auto loan and a student loan in addition to the one bank card.  I have not been late on anything, yet my scores are barely budging.

Currently my scores are: TU: 568 EQ: 533 EX: 531

Help! I really want to purchase a home in 2 years after my car is paid off.

Why not ask her to remove you?
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

You can remove yourself. I was AU on one of STB ex-DH's cards. He refused to remove me when I asked him to. All the info was on my credit report so I called them up and asked to be taken off and it was done.

Hi Jordansmom, welcome to the forum. If you haven't done so, please read credit scoring 101. I would remove myself from that AU account ASAP, then dispute with the CRAs as "not mine"

Hi scoppe, is that a back door number to AMEX?

Re: Authorized user status is killing me!!! Help!

Thanks so much! I called this morning and they said they would delete all 5 cards from my credit report, I didn't even have to ask!  As soon as I gave her the account number and the account came up as closed, she said they would remove it as my authorized user status ended when the account was closed.

Re: Authorized user status is killing me!!! Help!

It's not a backdoor number, any rep should give it to you once the situation is explained.  Glad it worked for you.

I think they explained it well. You just have to request to be removed and get your moms permission. Smiley Happy
