Best way to handle a collection?

Hey Folks:

I have one collection that appears on two of my reports. It was for a medical thing at a local hospital that should have been covered by insurance. One status shows "unknown", and the other says "Paid account/was a collection account, insurance claim or government claim or was terminated for default". I can't figure out what happened to this, as it was from 2003. (Although I think the hospital visit was from way before that). There is limited information about the Collection agency - as it is listed as "Fin Recovery", or "Finacial Recoveries".

If it went to collections, but was supposed to be covered by insurance, is this something that I can have removed? I tried reading the Credit 101 post, but I'm still confused.

Thanks!

If you feel it shouldn't be on your reports, dispute. You could also try a GW letter.
