Can CC company report the name of your employer upon inquiry?

The credit card company did an inquiry and reported the name of my employer.  I didn't know they would/could do this.  I thought an inquiry was just to "inquire" about my credit, not report things.  Is this standard practice?  Thanks.

I have employers listed as well, down in the "personal" section, I think.

I've not given it much thought, other than it shows someone that I am employed, which I assumes helps in some way. Just my opinion.

Yes- but more common with a Mortgage.
