Re: Charge off Still Reporting Open???

A charge-off is an accounting measure taken by a creditor, which comprises moving the debt from an account receivable (asset) over to a bad debt (liability) in their accounting books.

In order to dispute the accuracy of their reporting that they took that accounting measure, you would need some basis to contest that statement.

What is your basis for asserting that they did not take that accounting measure?

Once taken, the CO remains a fact, even if the debt is subsequently paid.

Thus, payment of the debt is not basis for disputing the accuracy of the reporting that they took a charge-off.

But why not report it correclty.. The account has a 0 balance, and I didn't make a payment in March 2016. In a way is that not a fat lie? If the account is Paid why mark it as open and paying as agreed? There are no payments left on this account.
