I have over 100k in student debt. Will a secured credit card really do much help in improving my credit?

Welcome to the forums,
if you don't currently have any credit cards, yes one or two secured cards will help your credit score and improve your chances at getting unsecured cards in the future. A good credit file has a mixture of different types of credit including installment loans (your student loans) and revolving credit (credit cards)
Thamks! This really helps!

It will help considerably if you add one or two secured cards and let them age, try to get a capital one unsecured first. I'm assuming you have no derogs on your CR.
I have a few derogs. Will the Secured cards still help?

Yes they will still help. As for the derogs, let me suggest you visit our rebuilding credit forum. The posters there can give you suggestions on possible ways to minimize their damage.
Will Do!
