Credit Union tells me "soft pull"

I opened a new savings and checking account today at a local credit union.

She tells me "you know we need to pull credit, but don't worrry as it will be a soft pull"

Well she was wrong- Hard INQ EXP.

I guess I can't complain - they also gave me a 3K Credit card that provideds OD protection to my account-

She also said I can send my family there as well even if they normally would not be elligable-

Let me know if I have any cousins out there I did not know about via PM and I would be happy to hook you up.

Almost any financial institution is going to do a hard pull when you open a savings or checking. Post 9/11 thingee.

It's been posted before that there is a way for them to re-code an inquiry as a soft pull instead of a hard. Why not call up the person you spoke to and ask them to re-code the inquiry for you since they told you it was a soft pull? Especially since you're a new customer, they may be very willing to help. It never hurts to ask.
