Credit cards

Two questions:

1.  I know that there are some complicated answers about whether or not to close credit cards.  According to the credit report, we have an average of about 22 cards.  I'm sure that many of them have not been used for a very long time, and they have a balance of $0 on them.  I realize  that we have more active credit cards than the normal number that  the average person has (6 cards).  I can't help but think that I should close all of the "dead" ones.  Is the best way just to call the individual company?  OR is it best that I don't close the cards?

2.  Using the FICA Platinum Kit--if have accessed one credit report, can I continue to open that report without additional payments.  If I continue to open it, does that count again my 3 reports for the year?

Thanks, Barry for the good past advice.

Re: Credit cards

It's been said "do not close positive TL, unless you pay AF"

If you have cards from the same issuer, try to combine them.

Do not answere on your second question.
