Date Assigned or DOFD?

My wife just spoke with a agent at Equifax and they told her that a collection(paid or unpaid) remains on yuor report for 7 years from the date ASSIGNED.

I thought it was DOFD?

They said for example, your account listed by Paragonway........DOFD is 06/2001, Date Assigned to Paragon is 09/2006, it will remain on your report for 7 years, until 09/2013. Not 06/2008

I am confused...........

It is my understanding that it is 7 to 7.5 years from the DOFD.

I had a 7 year old collection frop off in that manner (actually, it was 3 months early)

Re: Date Assigned or DOFD?

FCRA says 7 years from DOFD set by the OC  (my drop dates confirm this) --- CSR knows not what she is talking about!  They really need to better train these reps - or at least tell them what to look at on their screen.

Re: Date Assigned or DOFD?

When I pulled my credit from annualcreditreport.com, they gave me a lot of great info, especially on Experian. That account said precisely when each TL was due to expire. In each case it was unrelated to 'assigned' and more closely related to DOLA or DOFD.

That CSR was confused. By her reasoning, a collection could stay on your reports perpetually, by just assigning the debt to different CAs every 6.5 years or so. It's 7-7.5 years from DOFD.

I find the EX reports (from EX) very good - they list when all accounts are due to drop off.  Very informative

Re: Date Assigned or DOFD?

Ya I pulled all three reports from myfico with scores 1/31/ and the collections just say date assigned. I had no idea DOLA or DOFD. So maybe ordering reports directly from the CRA would help find that info so I will try that also to see if I can find the DOLA or DOFD for collections

Re: Date Assigned or DOFD?

Try annualcreditreport.com, you get one free 3 CRA pull per year. The Experian on that will be very detailed.
