I pulled a copy of my credit report on 9/13/13 through TransUnion on MyFico.com and my score was 669. I also was suggested a number of credit cards that I could apply for - however, the denial letter dated 9/13/13 came today stating that my score through Trans Union was 551, that I had an insufficient # of accounts (when TU says I have 18); high # of credit cards recently opened (when TU says I haven't opened a new acct since 4/2007). How do I get this incorrect information fixed??
What score range is on the letter you received? They might not be using a FICO score. Or they could be using an industry specific version enhanced for credit cards or something like that.
You can't put too much stock in the reasons that are given. They are auto-generated, so I am not sure that there is anything to correct. You could ask for reconsideration of the denial pointing out that you haven't opened any credit cards recently.
Thanks for the reply. It says specifically on the letter that the score is 551 from Trans Union on the same date I pulled in on MyFico - thus why it's confusing.
Does it give you a range for the score, e.g., 300-850, 500-990. For example, 500-990 would tell you that it is Vantage, not FICO.
Also, since you were denied credit, you can request a copy of your report. You state that you already have a copy from the same day, so it doesn't look like there is anything on your report that you are unaware of, but you can request an additional copy to make sure.
