Disputing a inaccurate information

When you dispute inaccurate information on your credit report, does that get reported and if so, who reports it, the creditor or CRA? When they list that your are disputing the information how does this effect your FICO score and how do potential creditors view this.

Re: Disputing a inaccurate information

I don't know how/if it impacts your FICO scores.

The dispute does show up in the comments section.

If you dispute through the CRA, they make the notation.  If you do a direct dispute with the lender, they report the dispute.  Even disputing a single charge on your credit card (fraud charge) can lead the creditor to report your account as disputed.

It is important to get all of these dispute comments off your reports before applying for a mortgage.  It creates all kinds of hassles that can be avoided by getting rid of them before you start the process.

THansk for the response!

What about applying for other types of credit? Should I have these disputes removed for them as well

I would not worry about them for other forms of credit. Certain aspects of the TL are removed from Fico scoring while its in a disputed status and its why when you app for a mortgage they will demand that all those comments be removed so they can get a true Fico on you.

Portions of an OC account under dispute will not be scored by FICO. Among these are the balance, the CL, and the payment history. Other items like AAoA, scoring bucket, credit mix, account age, etc. including CAs and PRs are not removed or impacted by a dispute.

So scores can and do change while a dispute is runnung it's course.
