Disputing items - credit clean up

I read on the internet that one person disputed payments reported past due every month. He said that sometimes companies don't go to the trouble of researching the items.  And the ones that confirmed the past due payment, he just disputed them over and over. Does this do more harm than good?

If you have an old item reported, say from 2001, it only has another year to remain on the credit report.  This would normally stay on the credit report for 7 years from being reported.  If you dispute it and they confirm that it is reported correctly, does it remain out there for an additional 7 years from the time it is reconfirmed?

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks!

No, it is seven years from the date that it was reported.
