Does recent collection refer to date CA opened or last pay?

As I'm cleaning up my credit-report and read these forums, I notice one thing Creditors cite for decline is Recent Collection/Late Pay.

I had old CC debt from 2002, charged off to Collection Agencies in 03-05. I've been paying them monthly and will be paying off in full soon.

When I apply for credit once my scored are good enough to do so, will those read as Recent Collections, since the default dates are 5-7 years ago? (I know they reduce my score in the short-term, I'm more concerned with manual review...)

Depends I have an old paid collection from 2002 but declined for collection in the past two years because when disputing it updated the status date as 2006 although it was actually 2002.
