Employer Background Checks

I could not find the answer anywhere online so I am going to ask it.

An employer typically does a background check they look at your credit report. Okay I understand that.

Now if the employer is a national bank and you will have access to client account info, etc... is their background check more thorough and detailed where it not only includes what your credit report history is and any collections, evictions, crimes but will they also be to actually see the charges you made and what retailer it was from?

Let's say I am charging a certain amount of money to a business they would not approve of like medical marijuana store or an abortion clinic and then they disqualify you based on their views.  Can they see my actual charges ro just the amount charged and the payments?.

Thanks

No they won't be able to see that information.  Unless you're applying for a top secret clearance you don't have anything to worry about.  The vast majority of employer background checks are done by outside parties and are very limited in scope.

No, no details on what you charge.  That being said BI's in banking or positions that have access to that type of data do dig further than a standard SP credit check most other jobs would do.

Re: Employer Background Checks

I just thought a national bank may dig further since they said it takes 2-3 weeks to complete whereas a normal mortgage company with a FBI background check takes just 3 days.

If an FBI bc is involved from the employer (bank) does that make it more detailed?

what is a BI? ...background investigation?

Re: Employer Background Checks

I work for a casino that is run by the state I live in.  Every two years I have to reapply for my license.  We are fingerprinted and FBI checks are conducted.  We must list everything from a speeding ticket to a criminal charge.  They also run credit checks.  If they have issues with what they find we have to explain ourselves.

About 10 years ago I applied for a job and they refused to hire me due to the amount of accounts I had in collections.  Some employers are more strict than others.  You just don't know what they are looking for.

An FBI check, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) check, will look at criminal history, if there is one.  The Economic Crime Index of the same database may also be checked.  Not EVERY criminal violation is found in NCIC; it depends on each state's criteria for submission to the national file.  Each state has their own database with essentially the same information. It's detailed only if there are details to report.

Re: Employer Background Checks

Background investigations for national security clearances usually obtain information of the type you are apparently concerned with via interviews with others familiar with our personal habits.  They also conduct personal intermviews, or which general catch-all questions such as "Is there anything in your personal history which might affect your ability to obtain and hold a national securitn clearance?"

I would be more concerned about what others know of your history than what they may obtain from creditor documents.  Interviews with others are more limited if the level of clearance sought is only confidential or secret, but beomes very thorough if the clearance level beiing sought is top secreit.

If your statements in your own personal interview are contradicted by statements of others, you have some explaining to do.........
